2017 Community Outreach and Events

Francis W. Parker High School Civic Engagement Fair

On September 27th, SOAAR team members participated in a civic engagement fair at Francis W. Parker High School in Chicago, IL. The purpose of the fair was to help students learn about local community organizations and how they can get involved either as a volunteer or participant. Approximately 350 students (15-18 years old) attended the fair; 30 students signed up with SOAAR to receive additional information. 


20th Annual Ullas Young Achievers CAN DO Workshop

On September 26th, Dr. Gupta presented on the topic of sparking curiosity and staying inquisitive to more than 3,000 high school students during the 20th Annual Ullas Young Achievers CAN DO Workshop held in Chennai, India. This workshop marked the beginning of the student's journey of learning and self-discovery.


2017 FARE Spring Luncheon, Chicago, IL

The SOAAR team participated in this year's FARE Spring Luncheon on May 12th, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, IL. In addition to Ruchi Gupta, MD, MPH speaking on a 1-hour panel about the new peanut allergy prevention guidelines, SOAAR also staffed a table and distributed food allergy resources, including free copies of their new food allergy videos. The team distributed approximately 165 copies and made lots of connections throughout the day.


Health Fair at Nicholson STEM Academy, April 19th

On April 19th, the SOAAR team was joined by 11 Francis W. Parker High School students in staffing education tables at a health fair hosted by Nicholson STEM Academy’s in Englewood, Chicago. Together, we provided approximately 50 attendees with asthma and food allergy-related educational materials and training demonstrations.

Atlantic Live: The Air We Breathe, presents "The Geography of Asthma" with Ruchi Gupta, MD, MPH and Kimberly Wasserman-Nieto, Executive Director of Little Village Environmental Justice Organization. The session is facilitated by Ron Brownstein of The Atlantic.
